The good efforts of local charity organization, Amanda Strong Food For The Needy, were supported again this year by Sanders Glen Assisted Living residents and staff. It was the idea of Sanders Glen Director of Nursing Angie Simmons that an "Ugly Christmas Sweater" contest be held to raise funds for area needs last year. It didn't take much discussion to decide to repeat the event for December 2016.
Residents and staff of this Westfield, Indiana, assisted living community were encouraged to wear their Christmas sweaters, creative, ugly and festive on designated dates. Pictures of the sweaters were affixed to glass jars allowing passers-by to place penny votes for their favorites over several days. Quarters, dimes and dollars were also encouraged!
This year twenty-one sweaters were on display raising penny votes to total $177.17! This full amount has been given to Amanda Strong Food for the Needy, a local charity providing food and gifts to families in need in the immediate area.
